Swisher Propels Yankees Past Red Sox

Nick Swisher blasted two solo home runs to help the New York Yankees beat the visiting Boston Red Sox, 6-4. Derek Jeter added a solo shot in the fifth inning for the 250th home run of his career.

The Yankees used the long ball to take the opening game of their weekend series against the Red Sox in the Bronx on Friday night. Nick Swisher homered from both sides of the plate, while Curtis Granderson and Russell Martin had back-to-back home runs in the second. After Phil Hughes allowed four runs in the third, three coming on a Dustin Pedroia home run, Derek Jeter blasted a solo shot of his own in the fifth to tie the game at four. In the sixth Jayson Nix's go ahead single proved to the be game winner as New York beat Boston, 6-4.
