The slumping Cubs opened a six game homestand with a win over the Mets. New York starter Johan Santana kept the Mets in the ballgame with six quality innings, allowing just two runs on a Joe Mather homer in the fourth inning. Santana struck out six and walked three in the loss but he was out pitched by Chicago starter Travis Wood. The Southpaw struck out six while shutting out the Mets over seven innings of work. Ike Davis continues to heat up for the Mets as the once struggling first baseman homered in the ninth to deny the shutout however the Cubs snapped their 4 game skid with a 6-1 victory over the Mets.
