The Pirates picked up their third consecutive victory after knocking off the Royals for the second straight day. Kansas City starter Vin Mazzaro helped his cause with an RBI single in the fourth, giving the Royals a 3-0 lead. However it was all Pittsburgh from there. First baseman Garrett Jones capped a five-run frame with an fielder’s choice RBI. Reliever Jared Hughes tossed two and a third scoreless innings for the win, while closer Joel Hanrahan picked up save number 17 in the Pirates’ 5-3 victory.
