Pirates Fall to Tigers in Series Finale

Garrett Jones' two-run homer off Justin Verlander tied the game at two, but Pittsburgh failed to complete the series sweep as the bullpen faltered and the Pirates fell to the Detroit Tigers, 3-2.

The Pirates failed to complete the sweep Sunday, losing the final game of their series with the Tigers. Justin Verlander pitched all nine innings allowing two runs on five hits while striking out seven. Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh, Garrett Jones smacked a two run homer to tie the game. But the Tigers put a swift end to any momentum the Pirates were building when Delmon Young hit an RBI single to deliver the a 3-2 victory for the Tigers.
