Orioles Drop Phillies in Extras

Matt Wieters doubled in the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 5-4. Steve Tolleson added a three-run homer for Baltimore.

The Orioles needed extra innings to knock off the Phillies in the rubber-game of their weekend series. Philadelphia starter Cliff Lee remains winless on the season. The southpaw surrendered four runs on seven hits while striking out eight through six innings. Baltimore right-hander Jason Hammel had a similar line, allowing four runs on six hits over six frames. Steve Tolleson knotted the game at four in the home half of the fourth with a three-run home run, just his second of the year. And in the bottom of the tenth, Matt Wieters doubled home Adam Jones giving the O’s the 5-4 victory, Baltimore’s ninth straight extra-inning win a new franchise record.
