The Red Sox fell to the NL East leading Nationals for the second straight day. Right hander Daisuke Matsuzaka surrendered four runs on five hits while striking out eight in his first start of the season. First baseman Adam LaRoche blasted a solo shot in the second. While shortstop Ian Desmond’s two-run single capped a three-run fourth inning for Washington. Pinch-hitter Jarrod Saltalamacchia plated a pair in the seventh for Boston but it wasn’t enough as the Sox were doubled up by the Nats 4-2 at Fenway.
