First-Place Pirates Defeat Astros

The Pittsburgh Pirates dispatched the Houston Astros on Wednesday, 6-4. Michael McKenry and Pedro Alvarez each drove in two runs for Pittsburgh, which moved nine games over the .500 mark.

The first place Pirates won their third straight against the Astros. After falling behind 2-0 in the second, Pittsburgh rallied to take the lead on a Clint Barmes single to left. Catcher Michael McKenry and third baseman Pedro Alvarez each drove in two runs a piece in the win. Starting pitcher Kevin Correia picked up the victory with six innings of work and closer Joel Hanrahan picked up his 21st save of the year as the Pirates topped Houston 6-4.
