Devils Bounce Flyers in Five Games

The New Jersey Devils advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals after a 3-1 Game 5 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. Martin Brodeur had 27 saves. David Clarkson and Ilya Kovalchuk scored goals.

Down three games to one, the Flyers looked to extend their Eastern Conference semifinals series with the Devils in Game 5 at the Wells Fargo Center.  Max Talbot broke the scoreless tie early in the first, but after New Jersey evened things up, David Clarkson would give the Devils the lead.  Clarkson's shot on Ilya Bryzgalov deflected off the goalie's stick and back into the net to give New Jersey a one goal lead, and later in the third the Devils sent the Flyers packing. Ilya Kovalchuk's power play tally was the dagger as New Jersey reached their first Eastern Conference finals since 2003 with their 3-1 victory over Philadelphia in game 5
