The NL Central Champion Reds defeated the Cardinals at Busch Stadium on Tuesday night. Mat Latos upped his record to 14-4 by tossing five innings of one run ball. Chris Carpenter dropped to 0-2 on the season after surrendering three runs, seven hits and two walks over six innings. Jay Bruce's RBI single in the top of the sixth gave Cincinnati the lead for good in their 3-1 victory over St. Louis. Despite the loss, the Cardinals clinched the second wild-card thanks to the Dodgers loss against the Giants.
